Meta and XGS announce plans for geothermal plant in New Mexico

Meta and XGS Energy, a California-based geothermal energy company, announced plans Thursday June 12, 2025 to build a geothermal power plant in northwestern New Mexico as Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and other officials touted the state’s geothermal resources.

Meta — the parent company of Facebook — and XGS Energy are partnering to build a geothermal energy site capable of producing 150 megawatts, state and company officials announced at a news conference in the governor’s Cabinet room.
